Gandhi
Mahatama Gandhi was a leader who fought for Indian independence from Britain. He was unlike many other leaders. Gandhi used non- violence, love, truth, and kindness to gain Indian independence. He not only changed India forever, but the world. No one ever really stood up for civil rights before Gandhi. After Gandhi's incredible movement, many others decided to follow in his ways. This includes the famous Dr. Martin Luther King Jr, who also used non- violence during his civil rights journey.
At the end of the movie, Gandhi, the final words shown on the screen was a quote by Gandhi himself. He said, "When I despair, I remember that all through history the way of truth and love has always won. There have been tyrants, and murderers, and for a time they can seem invincible, but in the end they always fall. Think of it. Always." This quote truly represents how Gandhi lived. For example, in the movie, Gandhi participates in the march for salt, and countless boycotts such as the boycott of British made clothes. All of this eventually leads Indian independence. Gandhi won independence without using any violence even though Britain did. Another example, is after India gains independence. The two religious groups, Hindus and Muslims, begin to fight over many different conflicts. Gandhi ended this feud again, non-violently, by fasting until near death. This leads to either side stating that they will die in every mosque or temple before fighting again.
The quote from Gandhi sums up his life accomplishments. When he had trouble, he remembered that no matter what, truth and love will always win, not violence and evil. In the end, good will always prevail. Many believed the British superpower could not be stopped by even the mightiest armies, yet they were stopped by an old man with glasses and barely any clothes on! Gandhi was different than others. He made others think about their ways and even question them. He changed our world. It wouldn't be the same without Gandhi. Equality of others today would be no where without him. We may still have slaves if it wasn't for Gandhi. Who knew that love, truth, nonviolence, and human values could change our world and lives so much.

Pop Culture: India vs. America
To demonstrate the variety of pop culture between India and America, I chose the highest grossing movies of all time. The movie, 3 Idiots, was made in Bollywood,India, while its equivalent, Avatar, was made in Hollywood, USA. Each of these places are the main movie making areas within each country. The movie, 3 Idiots, is about two idiots in search of their friend, Rancho. The movie is mainly a flashback of their college times with comedy, drama, and romance mixed in. As you can see, the American movie, Avatar, is filled with drama and romance. After comparing these two movies, Americans and Indians find different kinds of movies enjoyable. The 3 idiots is mainly funny, with a few drama scenes. Americans find movies full of drama, action, and aliens enjoyable. We want something that will impact us and maybe even make us cry, with a few jokes here and there. While Indains just want to have an enjoyable, funny, experience!

NGO
The Uday Foundation is a NGO company that provides help and support for families with children with critical disorders, syndromes, diseases, and birth defects. Basically anything that will affect their health, education, and growth, Uday foundation will help. Uday reimburses medical bills, give monentary help with daily nutrition, counseling, and provides surgery to patients in government hospitals where it is inexpensive because of the constant support of pediatric surgeons. Even after all of this funding and help, Uday foundation still works to bring a smile to the patient's face. They bring in a mobile library in front of the Children's hospitals, bring in the child's hero, and overall make the hospital less frightening and more like home. Uday can bring smiles to the patients family face too by providing food vans.
The Uday Foundation currently is striving to make children's rights better by campaigning and petitioning, stating that there is not equal rights and discrimination for kids with birth defects. They also participate in finding rare blood groups donors and proper treatment to kids with congenital heart defects. I am so overwhelmed by the extraordinary measures the Uday foundation has done to help these patients and their families. Now that you are touched by this amazing act of kindness. You probably want to know how you can help. You can donate food and money. You can also volunteer! You can volunteer as a doctor and hospital partner ( If you are trained), weekend story telling program for kids in hospitals, counseling, fund raising, Co-ordination and administration support, and a heath and advocacy program. When people volunteer, we are connecting people across the world all with one goal, to change the lives of these poor kids with medical issues.
